A 2010 study published in "Arthritis Research and Therapy" looked at the association of vitamin D deficiency and rheumatoid arthritis symptoms. They found that vitamin D deficiency is very common in patients with RA and that there is a strong association between low levels of vitamin D and disease activity and treatment success. They discovered significantly lower levels of vitamin D in patients with active disease activity and a poor response to disease treatment. Calcium deficiency and low bone mineral density is common in patients with rheumatoid arthritis. A 2006 study published in "Arthritis and Rheumatology" looked at the use of calcium and vitamin D supplements in patients with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis and found that 1,000 mg of calcium and 400 IU of vitamin D significantly increased the bone mineral density in these patients.

Read more: http://www.livestrong.com/article/517444-Pattinoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5894216172735785887.post-3801002103930225502012-01-31T00:58:26.340-08:002012-01-31T00:58:26.340-08:00Hello Grumpy!

I've been diagnosed with arthritis in my lower back. I've been taking Calcium with magnesium & Vit. D supplements 1200 mg (all in one) every day and have had no real problem since. I also take Vitamin C 1000 mg along with it. Also, I've been taking Apple cider vinegar, a few teaspoons every day, (I read was good for arthritis) followed by a teaspoon of organic honey.

Well, so glad you're feeling better.Pattihttp://gethealthybehappy.weebly.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5894216172735785887.post-25267224697737721252012-01-30T17:04:48.669-08:002012-01-30T17:04:48.669-08:00I also do the no red meat thing and have been for ...I also do the no red meat thing and have been for over about 1 1/2 years now. Once in a very very blue moon I will eat red meat....like 2x per year. I am not sure that it has helped my ra alot but it (no red meat) I am hoping has helped my heart and all. I do take pregnisone so weight is something I would like to keep off...as much as possible. I did a recent blog post on my blog about different vitamins and things I am taking for my ra. I have noticed a difference when I added these to my daily stuff. And I am next going to try and add some protein powder (natural kind of course) to my daily intake as I feel I am low on protein intake. I am glad that your diet has made a difference for you. I am also trying to add some regularly walking into my every day stuff. I am bound to be healthier also...ra or not!abcsofrahttp://abcsofra.blogspot.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5894216172735785887.post-17113656114056929432011-12-06T13:22:14.548-08:002011-12-06T13:22:14.548-08:00I have had ankylosing spondylitus since I was 12. ...I have had ankylosing spondylitus since I was 12. I finally got diagnosed six years later along with my father (after six years of being called a liar). I was fortunate enough to work in the oil industry and able to work in hot countries. However aged 45 I had to return to the UK as both my parents were not well. Changes in barometric pressure and dropping temperatures wreak havoc in my joints, too. I've found that keeping an electric heating pad--and an electric, heated throw--handy is helpful. The heat doesn't make the pain go away, but it does feel good, and it's deeply soothing.

Best of luck to you as the season deepens toward solstice. Once that arrives, you can note the growing light each day and anticipate the spring with assurance. I found your blog via Rheumatoid Arthr...Hi, Grumpy,
I found your blog via Rheumatoid Arthritis Guy's blog. Welcome to the RA blogosphere! This small, international community is empathetic, supportive and frequently funny--just what we need sometimes to get through the day. I've found writing about my RA very cathartic, and I've learned a great deal about it and myself while creating posts. Making online friends who understand and genuinely care makes a big difference, too. So, once again, welcome.

The worldwide economic crash has terribly affected those of us with chronic pain and disability. Our federal and state governments here in the U.S. are also cutting aid to the handicapped and disabled, depriving those of us who depend on them of small funds and minimal help first. And as in the UK, our government seems to be trying to influence our fellow citizens to see us as leeching moochers, as if we WANT to be disabled or are faking it for the money. Sigh. They don't realize how easily and suddenly they might find themselves in the same situation, coping with daily debilitating pain and disability that could make them unable to work.

I hope you'll keep blogging. I'm looking forward to reading more. Here's wishing you a break from pain and much joy with your family and friends.L."Wren" Vandeverhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03587456557210335403noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5894216172735785887.post-8869288884213942562011-09-23T12:43:51.285-07:002011-09-23T12:43:51.285-07:00I read your post.....this is vrey useful....My mom...I read your post.....this is vrey useful....My mom is also having same kind of pain.....It will help me for sure......Aditya Deyhttp://www.adithewonderboy.blogspot.com/noreply@blogger.com
